Deaflink has a number of groups that meet monthly in venues across Newcastle City.  They are open to all D/deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, Deafblind and Deafened people and include communication support such as British Sign Language interpreters, loop system and Speech-To-Text Reporting screen.  Details of our meetings from September to December 2017 can be found in our latest Events List  or by checking out our events page above.

SIG logoSelf-Help for Hard-of-Hearing Group (SHHH)

Monthly self-help support group for Hard-of-Hearing and deafblind people, including those who have been recently diagnosed with hearing loss. We invite speakers to present topics linked to hearing loss and support services. This gives a chance to share experienes and give support.

Topics covered were: How to look after our hearing aids and tubes, Durham Deafened Support, Connevans equipment, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, Why we lose our hearing?, Communication Tips/Tactics, Menieres Disease, Fire Services and Free Home Safety Checks, Freeman Hospital Audiology, Deciding Rights/End of Life, Ageing and Health etc.

Monthly forum with external speakers linked to Men’s Health issues to increase Deaf Men’s’ knowledge that they wouldn’t share comfortably in other forums. Same communication and presentation methods as above.

Topics covered were: Prostrate Gland Cancer, Health MOT, Smoking, Healthy Eating and Stroke.

drama group

Drama Group

Sessions which develop role-play linked to topics presented in our forums. This helps our audience have a greater visual understanding of the information which is presented. This improve the confidence and skills of group members.

Who for: D/deaf people with intermediate drama/role-play skills - we are hoping to demonstrate role-plays to services in our future events

Once the assessment is complete, equipment can be offered free of charge and is not means tested.  Once equipment has been provided subsequent equipment would need to be self-funded. There is a website to support the identification of equipment and clients should visit
