Deaf Awareness Facts

There are over 10 million people in the UK living with hearing loss.  The low estimate for people who use British Sign Language (BSL) is 100,000.  Deafness is a hidden disability and many hearing people make massive assumptions based upon lack of knowledge and experience.

Deaf Awareness

  • What is a cochlear implant?
  • What is BSL?
  • Do I need to book an interpreter?
  • What does acquired hearing loss mean?
  • What can I do to improve communication?
  • Can deaf people speak?

Many people do not understand hearing loss and/or deaf culture and the questions above are typical.
